A New Years celebration ended in disaster when a police helicopter plummeted from the sky and crashed into the courtyard of Anfu Gallery close to midnight. Eleven casualties have been reported, including the host of the celebration and co-owner of the gallery, Mo-Ren Wei.
Co-owner of the gallery, Michael Yang, who had not been in attendance, expressed his condolences in the media release that followed. "My heart is with all those who have lost tonight, and especially the Wei family, who have suffered such loss this year. The world has left behind some good people."
Chinese officials has labeled the event a 'freak accident' and have not yet released the names of those piloting the helicopter. Investigations remain underway.
